57 participating schools across 7 villages

Computing is the modern day engine of economic growth and development. Yet many parts of Africa are being left behind and the digital divide continues to grow. In Ngoketunjia, the majority of the population cannot use computers or the internet, less than 5% of government offices have computers and we are the only public internet provider in the division of 13 villages.

Schools struggle to introduce computing into their curriculum. They face problems of lack of equipment (less than 56% of schools in the region have computers), of those 50% have 2 computers or less. Of the schools that do have computers 40-50% may be in a state of disrepair, more than 80% of schools do not have text books and 67% of school teachers state they are in need of extra training.

The purpose of this forum is to bridge the digital divide through education.

The partners of this initiative are:

The seminars
We will run a program of seminars for school computer teachers. The program will be implemented by PCDI and LUKMEF and funded by the AUD International AID Club. For more information, click here.

What started as a small project in October 2008 has blossomed into something much larger. With over 120 computers and extra monitors to ship I was quite concerned with how I was going to get them. Enter LUKMEF, an NGO based in Limbe, Cameroon. With their help the equipment will be shipped near the end of January. They will then disperse the computers in bundles of 10 to various rural organizations and train two people in each organization to maintain the computer hardware and software.

When Dissertation Troubles Surrounded Me:

This is an appreciative letter to thank the people who provided pin-point and professional UK dissertation writing help at the time when I was totally disappointed and had braced myself to meet the disaster regarding my PhD degree. I was busy working and handling my social life. You can say that I was hanging in balan… Continue

Sugar on a Stick

And, no I don't mean a lollipop, although that is another form of sugar on a stick.

The One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) program has produced some fallout, and the result would be Sugar on a Stick. Its an educational version of Linux, geared towards younger children and runs off a Live CD or a USB key. I have played with it and its quite interesting. My youngest daughter took it for a test run (even though she's 18) and she really liked it.

I am including this article from SugarLab
